We first heard about director Howard J. Ford’s rock climbing thriller The Ledge fourteen months ago, at which time the film had just entered post-production. Now it has finally been revealed when we’re going to have a chance to watch The Ledge: Saban Films and Paramount are teaming up to give the film a theatrical and VOD release on February 18th. With a month to go before that date arrives, a trailer has been released online and can be seen in the embed above.
The Ledge has been described as a “female-centric take” on the 1993 Sylvester Stallone movie Cliffhanger, which is interesting because director Ana Lily Amirpour has been developing a female-led reboot of Cliffhanger since mid-2019. That reboot is taking so long to go into production, The Ledge pulled ahead of it… but if Amirpour’s Cliffhanger ever does get made, I’ll still watch it.
Ford (The Dead) directed The Ledge from a screenplay by Tom Boyle (Nature Unleashed: Volcano). The film has the following synopsis:
A rock climbing adventure between two friends turns into a terrifying nightmare. After Kelly (Ashworth) captures the murder of her best friend on camera, she becomes the target of a tight-knit group of friends who will stop at nothing to destroy the evidence and anyone in their way. Desperate for her safety, she begins a treacherous climb up a mountain cliff and her survival instincts are put to the test when she becomes trapped with the killers just 20 feet away.
Brittany Ashworth (Accident Man), Ben Lamb (Divergent), Louis Boyer (Outside the Wire), Nathan Welsh (Trust Me), Anaïs Parello (The Lockdown Hauntings), and David Wayman (Benny Loves You) star.
